Steve was born on February 24, 1955 in San Francisco, California. He was adopted at birth by Paul Reinhold Jobs and Clara Jobs because the biological parents had no choice but to put the baby up for adoption because his girlfriend's family objected to their relationship. At the age of 5, The Jobs family moved from San Francisco to Mountain View, California. Steve spent his childhood in Silicone Valley, He was the type of kid who liked to stick to himself. Later, the parents adopted a daughter, Patti. Paul worked as a mechanic and a carpenter, and taught his son rudimentary electronics and how to work with his hands. Clara was an accountant, who taught Steve how to read before he went to school, Steve started attending school at the Monta Loma Elementary school. He enjoyed joking around and pulling pranks frequently on his peers. According to school officials, his test scores recommended him to skip two grades, Although his parents decided to elect him to only skip one. He later started attending Crittenden Middle School at the age of 11, but the area that the school was in became a poor area where kids were bullied and unfortunately, Steve was one of those kids that was bullied pretty hard at that school. Steve had a neighbor who shared the same interests in electronics as him and who worked at Hewlett-Packard Company (known as HP today), he would spend a lot of time in his neighbor's garage checking out future gadgets. It must have been too much for him at school because one day, he came home and told his parents that he "wanted to transfer schools or he would never attend school again". After that statement, The parents agreed and the family moved to another city, which was Los Altos, California, where he was able to attend Cupertino Junior High. He only ever did competitive swimming, and no team sports. Later on he joined the Hewlett-Packard Explorer Club, where he saw his first computer at the age of 12. He was impressed with the computer and knew he wanted to work with computers as a career. Steve attended high school at Cupertino Junior High, but transferred to Homestead High School, located in Cupertino, California. It is at Homestead High School, that he took his first electronic class. In this electronic class, he made friends with Bill Fernandez. Bill also shared similar interests in electronics. Bill introduced Steve to his neighbor, Steve Wozniak. Wozniak was their computer and electronics geek also referred to as "Woz" by his group of friends. Steve started attending after school lectures about computers at Hewlett-Packard Company in Palo Alto, San Francisco.
